Connex are often identified by their straight edged outer links. This promotes quicker gear shifting by directing the sprocket tooth into the link micro seconds quicker than other designs. The outer links inside edges are also chamfered, which accelerates chain engagement on the tooth quickly resuming power transfer to the wheel. Also the flat side faces of a Connex chain reduce drivetrain noise as contact with other sprockets due to road vibration is minimised. Pin concentricity, or the exact roundness of the pin is a key detail in chain construction as the tiny contact area of the pins are what transfers power from one link to the next.
